The book cover and initial set-up of the book led me to believe this would be a story where the characters use cool specific skill sets to get themselves out of the palace. Unfortunately, A Drop of Night was not quite what I was expecting. When the teens accidentally wander into the palace, which is real but definitely recently renovated, they find themselves racing against the clock and against a wealth of booby traps to try to make it home. Once the group arrives in France to begin the excavation of the supposedly recently discovered underground palace, they realize they were duped, and their hosts have gathered them for an entirely different purpose. ReviewĪ Drop of Night follows a group of teenagers who are hand-selected for an expedition into a recently discovered historical site–or so they think. An evil spanning centuries is waiting for them in the depths.

Anouk, along with several other gifted teenagers, will be the first to set foot in it in over two centuries.īut nothing is as it seems, and the teens soon find themselves embroiled in a game far more sinister, and dangerous, than they could possibly have imagined. Built in the 1780’s to hide an aristocratic family and a mad duke during the French Revolution, the palace has lain hidden and forgotten ever since. Seventeen-year-old Anouk has finally caught the break she’s been looking for-she’s been selected out of hundreds of other candidates to fly to France and help with the excavation of a vast, underground palace buried a hundred feet below the suburbs of Paris.
